What is Arabic "diglossia"?

Arabic has a feature called "diglossia," which is a characteristic of a language in which the written (literary) and spoken (colloquial) forms are significantly different.

📖 Modern Standard Arabic (MSA)

• Used in news, official documents, education and books.

• It has strict grammar and is heavily influenced by historical Arabic.

• However, it is rarely used in everyday conversation.

🗣️ Colloquial Arabic (Arabic Dialects)

• Different ways of speaking in each region (Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, etc.).

• Grammar is simplified and the language sounds natural to native speakers.

• However, there are large differences between countries, making it difficult for learners to study in a uniform manner.

For this reason, people learning Arabic often face the problem of "Which Arabic should I learn?"

📌 Even if you learn MSA, native speakers rarely use it in conversation.

📌 When you learn a dialect, it is often only understood in that area.

bil-Arabi ashal's approach - "Standard Arabic as spoken language"

Therefore, at bil-Arabi ashal we teach "Spoken Standard Arabic".

🟢 Not as strict as the MSA, but still applicable throughout the Arab world

🟢 It is more uniform than dialects and can be understood in every country

🟢 Learn Arabic used in "real conversations"

This approach will help you learn Arabic easily and effectively!

What is "bil-Arabi ashal"?

The word "Arabic" in Arabic is officially called "Al-Arabiyya (العربية)", but in everyday conversation "Arabi (عربي)" is more common.

At bil-Arabi ashal (بالعربي أسهل), we teach Spoken Standard Arabic, as it is actually spoken by native speakers. The choice of words itself reflects our approach!

📌 bil-Arabi (بالعربي) → meaning "in Arabic" (natural way of speaking for native speakers)

📌 ashal (أسهل) → "easier"

It means "Arabic made easy!" and reflects our philosophy of providing a more accessible and practical learning method for everyone learning Arabic!
